I was just thrilled that he had an opinion and a voice to express it with.
And I seriously considered getting him his own special costume.
But instead, I just posted his wants on Facebook and basked in his progress.
We then had a long heart to heart about the difference between The Nativity and Noah's Ark and finally compromised on being a donkey.
Fast forward to this year, 2013.
Luke's preschool has a Christmas Program where it is tradition for the 4 year old class to act out The Nativity Story.
Luke came home at the beginning of the month and told us that he tried out for a play.
We made a big deal out of it. High fives and lots of hooting and hollering.
Maggie asked what part he auditioned for.
He came back with "you know that guy that is with Mary and Baby Jesus, I gonna be him. What's his name? Moses?"
And I giggled inside.
"Close, Luke. That guy's name is Joseph."
"Oh yeah, Joseph. I gonna be Joseph in the play at my school."
(Later he came clean with the fact that "they pulled my name from a hat" but still we couldn't be prouder of our Joseph.)
Although he didn't have any lines, they did sing 2 songs.
Away In A Manger has never been sung as sweetly.
And as the program drew to a close, he bowed. The only kid that bowed. (Wonder where he got that from?!?) ;)
Blown away by our little miracle and God's blessings.
